Glimpses of the near future: Operation BLUE DESOLATION

Note that part of this article is off-limits to players. Anyone who wants to read it, just highlight the white text between the SPOILERS-notices. Note that since this is an RPG, there are many possible outcomes to BLUE DESOLATION, but for the purpose of this blog, this is the canonical outcome.

Among various things found out due to the data received from Project RED BRUALLKI was an after-action report by Imperial Admiral Telk Avard. Telk Avard’s forces had destroyed the Rebel Alliance safeworld known as Flitter. Intelligence operatives were aware of the Rebels planning and aborting a rescue operation due to a lack of resources, which convinced Secretary of Defense Quatrara to suggest a rescue operation, since RED BRUALLKI information suggested that a number of survivors were holed up in caves on the world, but the Imperial admirality had decided to not land troops, instead leaving a small number of ships to blockade the world. Upon seeing the Imperial OOB, Quatrara was outraged and threw a paperweight at a wall in anger. The Rebels declined to risk a rescue due to the massive force of two Corvettes and a few supporting craft. Quatrara presented the idea to Kiner who gave his blessing to the venture.

Battlestar Emancipator and three Corellian Corvettes were detailed to the mission, which was a resounding success. Jumping into the system, four Raptor Combat Shuttles and the Battlestar launched ship-to-ship missiles against the Imperial ships, which consisted of two Corellian Corvettes, five Guardian-class patrol cruisers and a pocket carrier of unidentified type. One Corvette, three Guardian-class ships and the pocket carrier were destroyed before the Imperials even had sounded battle stations. One Corvette was captured along with one of the Guardian-class patrol cruisers after being boarded by Marine Infantry.

After the short battle, while salvage operations started, Raptors flew down into the atmosphere of Flitter, searching for survivors. Raptor 5944 established radio contact with Alliance Major Seldarr, who claimed to be in command of the survivors. Over two hours, a total of 1542 Alliance personnel including surviving family members were evacuated by the Corvettes and by Raptor.

During the evacuation, Victory II-class Star Destroyer Intruder jumped into the system and a short battle was fought between the Intruder and the Emancipator. The Admiral in charge of the rescue operation ordered the last evac Raptors to jump on their own to a rendezvous point 4 lightyears away. When the last evac Raptor jumped into hyperspace, the Battlestar followed.

With minimal losses, the Indie fleet had pulled off a seat-of-their-pants rescue operation, and the Department of Information made a short documentary holo of the entire affair. While a number of the survivors of Flitter were repatriated, a large percentage of them opted to join the Federation Military, due to the fact that many of them were angry and felt abandoned by the Alliance. Major Seldarr was among them, eventually becoming the commander of a Battlestar.
